Heart-Pounding Adventures to Enjoy From Springdale Resorts

A stay in Springdale resorts like Flanigan’s Resort can be the perfect family-friendly getaway. The resort’s close proximity to Zion National Park makes it easy to get to and from the park for some sightseeing or hiking. Plus, staying in Springdale Utah hotels means being able to enjoy the many attractions that the town and nearby area have to offer, including a number of beautiful Utah state parks.

But Southern Utah is also an adrenaline junkies’ paradise. Filled to the brim with stunning national and state parks, every one of which offers heart-pounding sports like hiking, rock climbing, canyoneering, and more, there’s an adventure for everyone.

If you’re looking to add a little excitement to your next stay in Springdale resorts, keep reading. We’re bringing you a few of the region’s top attractions that are sure to get your heart pounding.

Off-Roading in Sand Hollow State Park

One Southern Utah gem that many tourists never get to see is Sand Hollow State Park. This beautiful park might be a fraction of the size of nearby Zion or Capitol Reef, but it’s also somewhere you can go to enjoy a heart-pounding sport that isn’t allowed in national parks; an off-road adventure in an ATV or UTV.

Sand Hollow State Park is an off-road playground. Rent an ATV or UTV, or bring your own, and you can zip over rocks, dirt, and sand dunes, a unique feature in the region (you’ll find them at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, too!). If you’ve never been on an ATV before, you can opt for a guided tour, during which you’ll learn everything you need to know to enjoy the ultimate adrenaline junkies’ sport.

This state park is just a 40-minute drive from Springdale Utah hotels, making it a perfect day trip during your visit.

Wakeboarding on Lake Powell

If you’re looking for a way to cool off during the sweltering heat of a Utah summer, head for Lake Powell. From there, you’ll have plenty of activities to choose from, several of which are sure to appeal to your adventurous side.

Wakeboarding is one great choice. Whether you need lessons to get started or you’re already ready to hop on your board, you’ll find everything you need at local marinas and rentals. While you’re spending a day on the lake, you can also enjoy fishing, swimming, and just cruising this beautiful lake.

Lake Powell is a bit further away from Springdale resorts than Sand Hollow State Park. But at two hours by car, it’s still close enough to make a day trip during your stay at Flanigan’s Resort.

Hiking the Edge at Angels Landing

Just about every state and national park you visit in the region have some hiking trails that are sure to get your heart pounding. But few offer quite the thrill of the iconic climb to Angels Landing in Zion National Park.

This 5-mile out-and-back trail climbs over 1,600 feet. The trail features more than 21 switchbacks that are certain to leave you sweating. Hikers must navigate along a narrow edge with steep drop-offs and only a chain handrail to hold onto. The top of the hike is more than 1,500 feet above the canyon below, so you’ll want to stay far away from the edge.

Angels Landing isn’t for the inexperienced hiker or anyone with a fear of heights. But if you want to enjoy some of the best views in the state, this hike is a must-see. Hiking this popular trail got a little more complicated in 2022 when the park began requiring permits for hikers looking to go past Scouts Landing. You’ll need to enter one or both of the lotteries to try to get a permit during your visit. Didn’t get a permit? Don’t fret! There are plenty of other trails to enjoy during your stay at Springdale resorts.

Mountain Biking on Gooseberry Mesa

If you’re looking to hit the trails in a way that’s a bit more exciting than a simple hike, bring your bike along. You’ll find hundreds of mountain biking trails throughout the area, but for the best, head to Gooseberry Mesa. This remote natural area is brimming with heart-pounding trails.

Don’t want to bring your bike along? After all, it’s a bit big to fit in your suitcase if you’ll be flying in for your vacation. Don’t worry; there are plenty of places to rent from nearby. If you’re new to the sport, you will find some beginner trails, though Gooseberry Mesa won’t be the best place to look, as many of their trails are technically challenging.

Gooseberry Mesa is just over a half-hour’s drive from Springdale Utah hotels.
